The presidential election, in many ways, is the most expensive, intensive, high stakes job interview there is. But are we, the voters—democracy’s human resource department—even asking the right questions?

A corrosive pride pervades our politics. Our problem is not so much that there is a Red America and a Blue America, or that the two or irreconcilable. And it’s not that one side of the aisle is entirely right while the other is entirely wrong. It’s that both sides are unwilling to admit that they could be wrong. In this country, at this time in history, our political chasm can be bridged. Not by some grand bargain. Not by another Great Communicator. But through an unvarnished, ancient virtue: Humility. Humble for President is a national campaign asking our next president to rise to a new level. Not to toe the party line. Not to bow to any interest group or issue. But to campaign and govern with humility.
